Summary
Objectives
The project addressed early school leaving and the growing number of young people classified as NEET in Europe. Its aim was to strengthen youth workers’ competencies so they could better support vulnerable young people through non-formal education. The training course focused on positive thinking, self-awareness, resilience, motivation and problem solving, helping youth workers develop tools to re-engage NEETs and ESLs in their communities. Practical methods such as reciprocal maieutic approach, critical thinking, collaborative learning and storytelling for labour-market self-promotion were core elements. The project also aimed to improve the overall quality of youth work and reinforce cooperation between organisations active in the field.
Implementation
The project delivered an eight-day online training course involving 25 youth workers from several European countries. All activities were based on non-formal methods. Team-building exercises created an inclusive atmosphere, while guided discussions and shared reflections helped participants analyse the challenges faced by NEETs and ESLs in their own countries. Sessions on positive thinking, resilience and motivation supported both personal and professional development. A SWOT analysis exercise equipped participants with a concrete tool to help young people identify strengths and opportunities during reintegration.
Participants worked in groups to test methods that can be used directly with NEETs and ESLs: awareness campaigns, storytelling and video-based digital CV creation. All tools, methods and exercises were compiled into a manual for youth workers. The methodological framework included peer learning, brainstorming, debate, role play, creative labs, Reciprocal Maieutic Approach and digital content creation.
Results
The project generated significant impact on the participating youth workers, who improved both their theoretical understanding and practical skills for working with NEETs and ESLs. Participants strengthened their digital competences and produced concrete outputs such as awareness campaigns, storytelling exercises and digital CVs that they can replicate with young people.
Through follow-up actions, youth workers shared the tools within their local communities, creating impact at local, regional and national levels. The manual produced during the training supports long-term transferability of the methods. At European level, the project fostered new cooperation links among partner organisations and enhanced the quality and visibility of youth work across the network.
