Summary
Objectives
The project strengthened the capacities of 32 youth workers from 8 countries by deepening and sharing knowledge on environmental education and sustainable development. It aimed to create a functional international network of youth workers, renew and adapt non-formal education methods, and increase understanding of local economy, sustainability, natural resources, and carbon-reduction practices. The mobility offered a structured space for exchange, cooperation, and long-term collaboration among organisations.
Implementation
The mobility took place in rural Covasna, Romania, involving 6 full training days plus 2 travel days. The programme combined outdoor and indoor learning and followed a clear progression: personal development, theory and practice through outdoor tasks, followed by method development, testing and evaluation. Sessions used non-formal education, group work, reflective exercises, and practical field experiences in Vârghiș Gorge and Merești. Participants engaged in workshops, intercultural evenings, documentary screenings, an NGO bazaar, energisers, and structured reflection circles. Activities were designed to balance learning, socialisation and intercultural exchange, while providing concrete examples of sustainability practices from the local area.
Results
The project improved youth workers’ skills and educational tools in environmental education and sustainability. Participants gained practical experience in using outdoor learning and non-formal methods, strengthened their intercultural competences and expanded their professional networks. The mobility also facilitated contact with seven local stakeholders, enriching the knowledge transfer between formal, non-formal and entrepreneurial fields. As a long-term impact, youth workers are now better equipped to integrate sustainability themes into their local activities and to support young people—especially those from marginalised backgrounds—through updated methods and international cooperation.
