Summary

Objectives
The project strengthened the abilities of youth workers and youth leaders from ten countries to address issues linked to migration, diversity, hate speech, racism, and conflict. It built cultural and religious understanding, improved communication and empathy skills, and promoted non-violent dialogue. Through two training stages, the project developed competencies for conflict transformation, outdoor experiential learning, inclusion practices, and trainer-ship. It supported the wider Erasmus+ aim of fostering cohesive, inclusive societies and preventing radicalisation.

Implementation
Two stages were organised.

  • Stage 1 – “Same and Different” (Bakuriani, Georgia, 11–18 December 2019): Participants worked on personal development, outdoor learning, cultural awareness, and conflict transformation. Activities included role plays, workshops, outdoor tasks, visits to IDP settlements, and a living-library session. Participants presented research on migration in their own countries and exchanged good practices.
  • Stage 2 – “Co-creating and Co-living” (Dingli, Malta): A training-for-trainers focused on applying outdoor and experiential tools when working with refugees and vulnerable groups. Participants designed and delivered workshops in a local refugee centre. They practised debriefing, group dynamics, activity design, and intercultural facilitation.

Participants included newcomers to NGO work, youth workers with experience in minority or refugee support, and individuals with fewer opportunities. Priority was given to disadvantaged young people, including NEETs, migrants, minorities, and those from challenging family or social backgrounds.

Results
The project improved participants’ professional performance and daily work with disadvantaged groups by strengthening practical tools, communication methods, and conflict-transformation skills. Personal development increased through deeper self-awareness, reflection on values and beliefs, and solution-oriented approaches. Organisations expanded their competencies and partnership networks. Peer learning, best-practice exchange, and hands-on work with refugees supported long-term impact and empowered participants to implement inclusive youth-work methods in their own communities.
